HALO: PRISONERS OF REACH - Joint Operation SHEPARD The Beauty, The Bear and the Fox

(AUTHOR'S NOTES: Well, been a while. It's a busy time for me; Universities and stuff. Also had a bit of a strange time involving the story tears and such. It's just be erratic and hectic. Total Angel Wings at times too. However, I'm on it. I'm back in the zone and stuff.)

Reach Time: 08:34 am
Date: January 21st 2552 (7 months and 10 days till Reach falls)
Location: BF1 of Covenant Research Facility, Main Lab 1

Tanja looked at the two of us now confused. I took Casey's helmet and began to hard wire in all my new communications technology. Casey though still confused looked Tanja up and down before pointing towards a terminal. "The communications problems are to do with that terminal," said the red armoured Spartan still stroking his hands "Chetan was always going on about how he 'foresaw' the inevitability in a UNSC siege of the building; him being the 'greatest mind' and all that bollocks. The word's I used to describe him are a lot less pleasant." Tanja walked towards the console hesitantly before turning back to me "I have no Idea Orso."

I passed Casey his hat, which he took with the slightest hint of distancing himself from me. He looked at Tanja again and then looked at me: "So, you two an...?"
"No." The two of us replied bluntly with me soon returning to my work emabarassed as I flciked switch upon switch, re routed wire upon wire and tunred back hearing in all it's glory Cyph3r's distinct voice...
"I knew it'd been too quiet." groaned Tanja holding her head in agony, Casey now also enjoying the delight of our commander screaming profanities and other abusive language. "EAT YOUR OWN FACE! Wait... No, You... Shit."
"Casey!? I knew you weren't dead! You twat, where have you been..."
"Crucified to a wall sir."
"Auditioning for Jesus Christ Superstar were we?"
"Ha ha... funny."

Tanja was growing mor eand more impatient hinting at me to urge the two from their little catch up session; I didn't want to but Tanja, grabbing the back of my head, pushed me forward. "Well, Cy, it seems we've lost our NOBLE companions..."
"Ain't we all the bastards all went and left!"
"They've all deserted, I'm making my way to you, be careful they're making their way into the lower levels as they fall back! AGH! YOU-!" as the speech drew to a close I looked towards the poor scientists. Whom all sat in their own faeces and were surrounded by their own sick. I heaved in my suit, looking at them all and Tanja seemed to almost be crying at the poor sight they had all become. These great minds were now broken, their lives probably never the same after such a traumatic situation but Casey the persistent joker thought now was the most appropriate time to crack a joke about the dishevelled messes that now lay in front of us. "Well if they moved... it would've been a shocking experience." Tanja and I looked at him, shocked and appalled "See what I did there?"
The red Spartan looked down at his feet as if ashamed, as he should have been. Tanja pushed past him "Now let's get them out of here. Now." She shot at their cuffs, releasing them one at a time and I followed suit. However, Casey's gun was just for show as his hands, although now hole-less his nerves were in fact still a mess and like my shoulder would still be useless for a pretty long time. So he watched our backs, looking at the terminals which displayed images of troops moving all around the base. It had become a very luxurious item...

"We're done here, wait..." I said watching the scientists hobble their way towards our own personal entrance "Is that NOBLE?" The screen flickered as I tapped wildly at the console to bring up a large video stream of NOBLE team creeping up the corridors towards the base's main hub. They'd left a trail of carnage behind them but they were totally silent from the rest of the SHEPARD team. All six of them including Kat and Emile were soon to engage Mallik's personal guard at the door. Once the fire fight had begun, trouble began to follow...

I tapped wildly again at the console seeing that all teams had joined together led by Cyph3r and were pushing back the enemy towards NOBLE's back. They would be trapped. "Cyph3r, you have to stop, NOBLE are going to be trapped if you proceed. STOP!" You could actually see Cyph3r shaking his head and keep going, he wasn't Carter's biggest fan and had obviously taken being deserted personally "It's their own fault."

I signalled to Casey and Tanja watched as the last of the scientists went back the way we had personally came. Tanja looked back at me and I looked at her for an answer. She didn't have one though, we all had personally grievances against NOBLE, they were annoying and pompous and genuine idiots. Yet, they were Spartans like us. We had to look out for each other, yet, no one had made any sort of suggestion as to what our next move was or even if we had a next move. Tanja though, nodded at Casey whom she seemed to respect and he in turn looked at me. I began to feel awkward.

"Let's move." said Casey "We'll get back with our won teams like NOBLE have and stop them getting massacred. Save the day, get the glory, watch them get their asses chewed off by a very pre-menstrual Xiang." I didn't want the thought of Xiang on her period, but what my mind had seen it could not un-see and it was made worse by Cyph3r also being put into the image. Tanja agreed and we were soon sprinting down the corridors towards our objective. We had to apprehend them all, Tobias Mallik, Renuku and Chetan Woot. I was still confused as to NOBLE's true intention but I followed Tanja, I trusted her but I still wasn't too confident in what was going on.

Something else was going on that I didn't understand. I didn't feel comfortable and I had stayed silent most the time. I was trying to figure it out, what was really going on here. I didn't think Carter would do such a thing randomly, I thought of Xiang and Holland the former's reaction to the latter. The unease that seemed to grip her but then Tanja took me by surprise, looking at me and allowing me to run into her...

"Are you ok?" she asked "You've been quiet. It's not like you..." I looked her up and down, until another hand grasped my shoulder "You ok there?" said Casey, I was confused as well as to who my red friend was everyone knew him but me and that put me at a slight disadvantage. It gave me a weakness, it made me uncomfortable. "Casey, who the hell are you? and what the hell happened to you, you're in my team but I haven't even heard of you!" I pointed my gun at him, "How can we even trust you?"
"Don't worry, Tanja, my sweet, He's just cautious and afraid..."
"I am not afraid."
"I was grabbed by Renuku and Chetan when I was scouting ahead of Operation Thunderstruck." explained Casey tensing his hand and watching his hand move oddly "And I've been here ever since, as Tartarus are top secret we don't really talk about it." he again tensed his hand "Plus, Cyph3r knew I wasn't dead, which is cool I suppose but I also suppose why he didn't talk about it, he knew I'd turn up."
"You're the only one stupid as he is." interjected Tanja.

I put down my rifle and sighed, my head hurt and I felt slightly sick. I just didn't understand what was going on. It was disorientating me. Tanja took off my helmet and her own to look me in the eyes "You aren't looking good, do you want me to call Spyder and Ellen..."

"I wouldn't..." came a voice from above, raining down two arrows on the two other, Casey having his head narrowly missed and the other falling in between Tanja's feet. I pulled her forwards and stood in front her like a giant shield, then what I thought were arrows were not arrows at all and who I thought was Renuku was not Renuku at all. Instead the pink needles exploded after a short amount of time and a white outline could be seen in the shadows. The figure threw forward Ellen and Spyderman, letting them hit the floor with enormous thuds. It then laughed to itself,  "Don't worry they aren't dead...just subdued like you will soon be..."

"Like fuck," yelled Casey "Come get me!"
"A beauty, a Bear and a Fox, Renuku will be jealous that my hunt has actually led me to such awesome game!" the figure stepped out from the shadows his Needlers ready...

MONDAY MUSING: Music and The Mood.

Well, it's been a while since I've wrote on here and to be honest with you I haven't got a faint idea as of what to write as I sit watching Glee with my girlfriend. Then it hit me! The programme's about music so I'll write about music and how that is really key to my mood. We all know it's true that music can calm, enrage and excite. It's all good.

Music is a huge part of my life; it's pretty good. I listen to rock when I'm angry, I listen to jazz when I'm sad and when I want to chill I listen to some RnB sort of stuff. I think it's essential to find out what sort of music affects your mood in certain ways; why? Because it's helpful. Therapeutic almost. So I advise you to get your tunes and sort them into playlists for certain situations y'know?

I mean I have some awesome tunes that I can recommend and everything but these playlists are personal to me; each with their own meanings and such so I guess it has to be the same for all of you? I mean why would you want a playlist that has an effect on me? You need one for yourself. It's about you.

So go ahead, do it make some playlists: make a COOL-DOWN LIST maybe a JOGGING-PLAYLIST or even for those awkward Xbox times when anger and hyper competitiveness kicks in a LETS-GO-KICK-UP-SOME-FUCK LIST!

Every song has a story, an interpretation and an effect. See what yours is because you never know it maybe something amazing...

Ciassou! x

MONDAY MUSING: Webcamz I haz it!

Well, I got a package. From Canada, it had been coming for a long time and in it was this webcam. I haven't had one in such a long time really. I kind of forgot how to use one, they're not very tricky though. So now I've been going cam crazy using it to record stupid things and call people; it is really fun. I'm glad my friend Tanja pastor got me one. I just need to send her a letter in reply now though. Hmmmm, what to write is a bit of a tricky situation though, never was a great letter man. I can write all this other stuff and then it comes down to a letter and I suck. I just don't get it...

Anyway, back to the cam. I've recorded bey I'm blade battles my Monday Musings for JAG which I'm going to  upload very shortly. This thing is pretty awesome; little microsoft thing. it's going to come in useful.... somehow. Not quite sure yet but somehow I'm going to incorporate it into the authorial. Just you wait...

Well, today's been busy. This is all I've really had to muse about the use of this cam. Let's hope this week brings more exciting things.

Name: Casey Turner
D.O.B: 31st December 2515
Age: 37
Ethnicity: White British
Service Tag: FOX
Rank: Corporal (EX-Captain)
Ability: Bubble Shield
Primary Weapon: DMR
Secondary Weapon: Dual SMG
Grenade Type: Fragmentation
Specialism: All Purpose

Born on reach, Turner’s mum died during labour and his father went on to pursue a career in ODST, this career was cut short on Casey’s 9th birthday when the UNSC gave him news that his Father had died taking a Gravity Hammer to the abdomen resulting in many broken bones and internal bleeding. With this, Casey was sent to military academy from which he graduated with distinction, almost following in his Father’s footsteps as a perfect candidate for ODST.

However, Case was placed in the Spartan program at request of his superiors and thanks to the watchful eye of ONI whom had been tracking his progress. Once augmented he became a captain of his own personal branch of ODSTs, old rivalries between the two groups caused friction but in the end Casey was able to gain respect from his team.

It was then Casey Turner’s team was sent on mission of great importance to kill a Prophet on the planet of Onyx. The mission was a nightmare with civilians being caught up in the fire fight; Casey took it upon himself to mount their rescue. He saw his whole squad wiped out but a 97% survival rate within the evacuated civilians. To spite this achievement, the Prophet escaped and Turner was ridiculed for his deviation from the plan and demoted.

It was thanks to this demotion that Turner was reassigned to the ailing Team Tartarus whom had recently lost 2 members (Johnathon Corbett filling the other place); he became the third longest serving member along apart from Rodriguez and the Captain. The three were close, even though Casey could easily grind a few gears. Casey was also an asset as he had no particular specialism and could in fact undertake almost any kind of mission; sent on a mission to Recon an outpost taken over by rogue Spartan soldiers by High brass and has been MIA ever since.

(AUTHOR'S NOTES: I write so much nowadays and it still isn't a chore. I'm liking it. JAG is starting to roll like a metaphorical snow ball only a couple more days to global domination! OOOOOOH YEAH!)

Reach Time: 07:34 am
Date: January 21st 2552 (7 months and 10 days till Reach falls)
Location: Laying Siege to Covenant Research Facility in Espoz Desert

The Mongoose's engine rattled and whirred as I tried to get as much as I could out of it. The convoy of quad bikes was kicking up a storm of dust and sand behind us, not even looking back. Tanja gripped me tight as the road bumped and the bike slid out from beneath us. "Hold on to something." I called back to Tanja.
"I am!" she cried "You."
"Ok, then grip tighter!"
I felt her press against me and suddenly the bike left the ground no longer whipping up a storm behind us. Now I just had to wait for the safe "clunk" of metal on the hard stone desert floor. Our objective (displayed on my HUD) wasn't far. We just had to push it; keep going and not look back. Nothing would've made me look back either except for the sound of skidding tires and a loud shout down the communicator...

The voice was Carter's and the shock of it's sudden outburst made me lose control of the bike. It was sudden. I felt the throttle slip from my hands; the whole handle bar in fact left my grip and I just turned and held Tanja for dear life. It was a small sensation of weightlessness that gripped me next and then gravity brought me back down to the hard floor. Tanja shook me violently urging me to get up but as I lay down on the floor; I doubted reality for a second. What I saw, was unreal but totally Tartarus in every way...

The sun was blocked by a flying man mountain; I blinked as I realised the jump jet on his back had activated and that in fact considering they were only just able to to pick up Spartans I couldn't believe my eyes. Rodriguez was not alone. In his arms was a dangling and shouting and flailing wildly Cyph3r who had replied to Carter: "I don't know yet, come back to me in a second." He looked down at me on the floor "Get the hell up Bear! Or I'll come-! BLOODY HELL ROD LOOK WHAT YOU ARE BLOODY-!"
"Sorry boss." groaned Rod trying to take the weight "You're bloody heavy!"

The duo stumbled across the sky attraction almost every piece of attention available. Once I was up I continued to marvel at the two; still debating whether or not I'd been shell shocked. Cyph3r pumped his shotgun. "Right! chocks away old boy!" he yelled to Rod "Let's get this party going, ORSO YOU TIT! MOVE!" I didn't need to be told twice, me and Tanja sprinted towards our toppled Mongoose. I looked back as we tipped it back onto its wheels and saw the daring move that Cyph3r and Rod were attempting. You could hear the slapstick comedy routine as they went along. "Okay, chocks away Rod?"
"Let me go."
"Are you kidding me?"
"No, no I'm not."
"Holy shit, Cy."
Rod let Cy from his grasp "YAHOOOO!" I hadn't seen anything like it, Cyph3r fell through the air gracefully pumping his shotgun as he flew. Like a wrecking ball he landed; blood soon following. I swear I heard and felt the ground shake under him. He'd came and gone as I pulled back the throttle and made my way towards the objective Tanja still looking back towards Cyph3r and the carnage. I couldn't be distracted, I had a job to do.

Tanja pointed me towards the ventilation entrance. We skidded to a halt, Kat and Emile already there with Kat on one knee trying to open the hatch that separated us from the inside of the large cylindrical chasm. I watched as she helplessly yanked and grabbed at wires in the terminal with Emile watching; Tanja looked at her tact pad and sighed "We're behind hurry it up NOBLE 2."
"How about your boyfriend gives it a go then," came a hostile reply "He know's everything!" The two looked back at me, wanting. I didn't respond. The hadn't asked me anything, I instead just looked around aimlessly. "Well?" they said in unison...

I tapped away at my tact pad exerting little to no effort at all and Kat watched as the hatch opened with a snap. I began to descend as the others just seemed to stare at me. "Well, you coming? I asked. The three snapped out of their awed state and began to follow me down. The service ladder had no security and the giant fan blades were a safe distance away, it relied on nothing but getting the hatch open. A quiet approach. Hopefully.

Although I was quite enjoying the view of Tanja's rear from below; I felt my feet hit the ground and groaned. Tanja followed by the NOBLEs touched down just behind. "Right, 1 click North is the science labs where all the of the hostages are, stay frosty and be quick. 3...2...1...GO!" With that our leader was gone and the two NOBLEs disappeared after her, I was left alone. I looked around. I felt uneasy, it had all been to easy so far, Renuku was clever and Mallik was too to leave such a vital point unguarded was a huge flaw; maybe this was a trap. The enemy almost seemed to be showing off and the noise from the surface had totally died. "Orso, you coming?" asked Emile viciously. "Guys... I'm not sure about this..." I retorted, I couldn't match his tone for aggression but if it was a competition as who was the more blunt; I think I would've won. "Don't be silly, we have our orders!" yelled Kat, still angry at my display up top.

So I ran towards the yellow dots on my motion sensor. There was still a feeling in my stomach. One that unsettled me to the very core, I was thinking of all the tactical training I'd been given; that was basic. The underground labyrinthine I was traversing was extraordinarily quiet; almost mistakable for a grave. The whole complex was a catacomb of tunnels and my motion sensors didn't define walls and it was soon apparent I was actually lost. "Guys...?" I asked the darkness. I only got a reply from static. It was soon apparent to me that the darkness was growing thicker and that the lights were actually dimming as if by themselves. I gulped switching to night vision. I could hear noises in the distance, tapping on my tactpad I moved silently forward. The noises continued; rattles, clanks, thumps all creating a huge tuneless symphony throught the metal tunnel.

My tactpad gave me no answers, the computer system had been locked down since the siege began, a standard UNSC procedure. One I was able to hack given time but I didn't have time. Whatever was up ahead was getting closer and I needed all my attention on that at the moment. It was clumsy, almost panicked and around the next corner. I hadn't looked at my motion sensor. I could hear whatever it was. I didn't need a sensor. I shook with fear, I had a total of 3 seconds to identify and make a choice. It could be anyone; soldier, hostage, SPARTAN or anyone for that matter. I had to be quick, I just pressed myself on the wall and waited. I was trying to steady my breathing. Whatever it was was big and I had to be ready...

It was close, just around the corner now. I took in one last breathe; tightened my grip on he gun and swung round the corner like lightning pointing the barrel at the mass in front of me. I reminded myself of the proper procedure; first, it was the challenge "En garde!" when my eyes adjusted with the night vision's help I quickly stopped the process. In front of me was Tanja, disgruntled and angry as she had grabbed the gun now pointed at her; "Put it down, or I'll shove it up your ass." I did as I was told instantly and she growled. She was angry and there was no sign of the NOBLEs anywhere. "They just left me." she growled "What the hell is going on!?" My motion tracker had their position, they were moving away from the objective and I wasn't sure as to what to do. I looked around at the still growling team leader "Let's proceed with our job and then worry about them..."

Tanja, looked up at me and nodded leading the way which wasn't actually that far now to another ladder which had a small circular hatch "I thought this was like, all underground?" asked Tanja looking up "The hostages are supposed to be on the first basement level; the research labs." I looked at the buildings schematics and smiled to myself "We're in the maintenance tunnels T," I chuckled "We're like in between levels." She went up again first giving me enough look at her ass as she went. She opened the hatch, realised what I was doing then kicked me square in the face. I almost fell from the ladder but managed to pull myself out from the hatch. The corridor was half lit, making us seem like flickering spectres with our strange coloured armour "Through that door..." whispered Tanja...

The door was eerily lit, bloodied fingers had scraped it's surface. Resistors, civilians. Whoever they were weren't very lucky, if we wanted to get anywhere me and Tanja would have to be. I opened the door with my tactpad looking for the NOBLEs; they were still nowhere to be seen. As I tapped away furiously the door clicked open suddenly and let us into the lab. I still wasn't sure about the fact there were no guards, even if that was what the siege tactic was used for I still couldn't believe that our whole journey had been uninterrupted. I felt strangely at odds with myself; I felt confident yet my stomach felt like a huge weight was settled in the bottom of it.

There was a groan from inside the lab...

We entered silently staring at the rows upon rows of people tied together. They all looked pale, malnourished and covered in their own faeces. You could see the shame on their poor faces and Tanja heave as she advanced more and more into the lab. The groans became louder and louder, Tanja ducking behind terminals with me and we listened in.

"If that's you Chetan..." the voice moaned, a hint of optimism in his voice "At least I'll get some sleep as you gloat." It was obvious the figure was no enemy of ours. I emerged from the terminal; spotting the red Spartan pinned to the wall with what looked like two huge iron spikes in either hand. A strange crucifixion re-enactment. The Spartan looked at me rather confused "And you are?"
"Orso." I replied. Tanja emerged too and screamed "Turner?" she asked the figure "Is that you?" The black haired man's chubby face looked towards her and he smiled "Oh, Tanja!" he cried "Now if you don't mind let me down from here so I can-OUCH!" it was obvious what he was going to say and she kicked him in the crotch for good measure before removing the spikes.

"Orso meet your team mate, Spartan FOX Casey Turner." said Tanja handing him my DMR and his helmet "C'mon Case, you have a job to do." The Spartan rubbed his hands as the holes left from the spikes had already began to disappear; he looked at me and I looked at him "Team mate?" we both asked...
